I went to the 5th anniversary celebration today at the LJ Civic Center. I was deeply moved by the program and the tribute to the veterans, the servicemen, and the fallen heroes that fight and protect us each and every day without even knowing our names. I am very grateful, first and foremost, to God for the sacrifice that He made on the Cross. I believe that the sacrifice that the military servicemen, first responders, and the veterans make and have made is the only one that even comes close to the sacrifice that God made for us. I know that there is no comparison, but I am extremely grateful for all that they do for my freedom. I say all of this to say that I honor your organization for what you do for these men and women to honor them for their service…Thank You!
With Confidence in Him,
Minister Jason

By definition, to volunteer is to render service freely, without regard to compensation.
We witnessed such generosity on Sunday, February 10th, when the Brazoria County Cavalry,
despite drizzling rain, honored our father, Hubert Ray Tarver at his home on his 90th birthday.
A good number of family and dear friends were in attendance for this act of kindness. I particularly appreciated the additional spotlight on Dad’s friend, Mr. Joe Shaffer for his military service as well. Every single person there was uplifted by the genuine expressions of gratitude for his and others’ dedication to our country.
Dad said it was his best birthday ever!
We recognize the amount of sacrifice involved in all that the Cavalry does and hope you are all blessed accordingly. We wish to heartily thank each individual that participated in the honoring of our father and other veterans that day.
Brazoria County Calvary has left an indelible mark on the hearts of our family.
Thanking you many times over,
The Family of Hubert Ray Tarver:

Thank you Brazoria County Cavalry beyond words that can describe for the beautiful ceremony honoring my father, Mr. Hubert Ray Tarver, for his military service during his 90th birthday this last Sunday. Also honored at that time were his 2 sons, his daughter-in-law, a grandson and even a great-grandson currently serving in the Marines . There were several others there that were honored including Daddy’s best friend, Mr. J. D. Schafer, who is 92ish! The event was one that will provide us with warm memories to last a lifetime.
My husband Brad and I would like to make a donation on behalf of all of our family and friends to show our deepest gratitude and fondest appreciation for your service to our nation’s retired military heroes, and to help provide funds to continue your wonderful work. I also have some photos from Sunday I will post on your website.
As it was starting to rain toward the end of the ceremony, my sister Chris did not have the opportunity to mention her deceased husband, Mike Van Horn, for his service to the city of Lake Jackson. He was a volunteer firefighter for 16 years, was on one of the first paramedic teams and also volunteered with the LJ police department, including teaching CPR. He died of cancer in l999; he made a huge impact on many people.
Again, thank you Cavalry for the sacrifices made to honor our retired military heroes who risk their lives to make our country free and secure. God Bless you, Cavalry and all of our military. Take care. I am looking forward to attending Saturday’s big event!
Kindest Regards,
Kat Tarver Roebuck

I will be composing an official thank you letter soon, but I just had to let you know how beautifully today’s presentation went. Bill did an outstanding job and our Dad was surprised and touched by all of it. Every single person there was so wonderful and my friends and family, those who have never had the privilege of seeing this done before was quite emotional. One of Dad’s few friends that are left attended the gathering (we didn’t really expect him to be there) and was honored as a veteran also. It was absolutely heartwarming. I’ll send more later, but wanted to say thank you so much for everyone’s efforts. We were all blessed by it. Please convey to others.
It was an additional thrill for me personally to see Andy Anderson there. He was a favorite of my husband’s, who worked with him nearly 15 years in the LJVFD, so he’s naturally a favorite of mine. We loved every minute of it.
Thank you many times over.

Cavalry;
So much has happened since we last saw you. My son, Sgt. Mark Brandon Mink, Army Airborne Ranger, came home safely from Afghanistan in April 2009. I could tell that it probably was a really bad campaign and he asked me not to plan a big homecoming for him, so we just had a private family gathering.
Mark got out of the military in May of 2009 and has been at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas, majoring in Civil Engineering. He will graduate this May 18th!! We will be in Lubbock, Texas for that great celebration. He has been offered a job already with Baker Concrete out of Houston, Texas, but his first assignment will be in New Orleans, La. building a new Veteran’s Hospital!! A bit of irony I guess. He is still single. This is great for Wayne and I because we built a new home in Grayson, Louisiana and have lived here since June 2012. I just recently sold my house in Texas.
My brother, Vietnam veteran James Paul Douglas, has retired from ADM and he lives just 5 miles from me. We have enjoyed being together so much. He got married to a sweet woman that we all love on Dec 27. Paul was age 65 in May of 2012 and is doing well.
My sweet daddy, WWII veteran, A. J. Douglas (Albert James) was 89 in September and had developed severe dementia and he is now living in the North Louisiana War Veteran’s Home in Monroe, La. That is about 40 miles from Paul and I so we can see him often. He is doing really well there. This Veteran’s Home is really great. It is so beautiful there, built on a Louisiana Bayou!!
I just watched the video’s on the BCC site that my now son-in-law put together after Mark’s deployment celebration and it made me cry so much. I have not looked at it in about 2 years. But I never forget to thank God for bringing my precious son back home to me and God has blessed us all so very much. I have my FIRST GRANDCHILD!! Alexander James Gutierrez is 20 months old and lives in Pflugerville, TX with his mommy and daddy. I pray that he will never have to go to war.
I hope this finds you and all of yours in good health and we will always be grateful for what you did for Sgt. Mark Brandon Mink, Vietnam veteran James Paul Douglas, WWII veteran A.J. Douglas, AND ME, the mom, the sister, the daughter on March 29, 2008!!!
We will always love you and the Brazoria County Cavalry.
Dwana Douglas Mink Hamre
