2/21/10 – Andres Ramirez
We want to thank everyone who helped honor Andres Ramirez at his 90th birthday on 21 February 2010 but a special thanks to the organizers Becky Rubio, Liz Guerra and Irma Ramirez and their hard work. The Brazoria Calvary lifted everyone’s spirit by honoring Andres’s military service during World War II as they highlighted the battles he was involved in where many Americans lost their lives and the gifts that the Brazoria Calvary provided to Andres. Several special presentations were given to Andres – Dennis Bonnen’s office provided a Texas Flag that had been flying over the Texas capital and Texas Senator Joan Huffman’s Gloria Millsap provided an encased Texas Flag. The mayor of Clute Calvin Shifflet presented a certificate to Andres. Brazoria Lions President Dr. Robert Schwebel and Brazoria Lion/Mayor Ken Corley were also present to provide local support. Family and friends from north and south Texas helped celebrate Andres’s birthday. Thank you everyone for making a special day even more special. We also want to thank Jose Luis Diaz for coming over from Natalia Texas providing a private performance to sing and play the old Mexican songs that Andres loved. We also want to thank Father Jim from St. Jerome’s Catholic Church in providing the special blessing for Andres.
