1/9/10 – Charlie “Scooter” Henley
First, I want to thank everyone for turning out for my son’s ride Saturday morning. When I was talking to Tracy, he asked me if I wanted to give Scooter the hat or the flag. I chose the hat. When I left my house Saturday morning and got to Brazoria by the credit union I looked at the temperature on the sign there. It said it was 20 degrees and I figured there wouldn’t be a whole lot of folks out on a cold morning like this. So, I got to the hall and started setting things up and could hardly wait to get things going. At 11:00am my girlfriend, Heather, sent me back to Sweeny, but, I was really going to join up with BCC. We didn’t want Scooter knowing that I was headed for his ride. When I got there I was totally amazed at the turn out for his ride. Never did I figure there would be that many folks out on a cold morning like that. When we left the post office and got to the hall I could tell that Scooter did not know that he had a ride coming that day. When I got off of my bike and hugged him he said, ” dad I thought that you were not going to make this ride until I got back from boot.” I told him no. When we went inside for everything and I was able to give my son the hat something changed in me about what I was doing. This will have a little different meaning to me when I am asked to give the next person something. It is hard to put into words what changed but all I know is that being able to give them the tokens of our and the county’s appreciation means a whole lot more to me now then it did before I gave Scooter the hat. I want to thank BCC again for what they did for Scooter, my family, and me.
I really thought Heather had made way to much chili but when everything was said and done there was very little left to eat….LOL. I am glad that everyone enjoyed themselves.
Thank you,
Neil Henley & family
