Clayton Maddox – 8/22/09

Dear Brazoria County Cavalry,

Thank you for such a great party. It will be a memory for a lifetime. I always enjoyed meeting new people. I look forward to seeing you all in a year or so. Thank you for all of your support for the military.

Thank You!

I was glad to be there. My formative years were spent watching that war on TV and seeing what it did to our older brothers. I have lots of stories of what I saw of the before and after. I have a best friend who will inherit the flag and picture of her brother who is on the monument. I will try to make more of the rides, especially for the Angleton area people. I just need a heads up if you can. Everybody thinks their activity is the most important. I still work for a living and there is only just so much Mayor to go around. I’m getting a good break this weekend. I’m watching people sweat to catch fish from my air conditioned 5th wheel.

I want you to know that being there yesterday helped me out with a veteran too. I talked about my father in law, 3 war veteran, mustang to Lt. Commander in the Navy. He wanted his ashes scattered in blue water. My wife has not been ready until recently to let him go. I got one of Mr. Thornsberry’s cards. I loved him dearly and he retired after 2 tours in Vietnam, done with the system. So I thank you for getting me involved.

WOW, that’s a hard one to follow but, I would like to add my own Thanks. I know there was a lot of time & effort put into this as well as a lot of lost sleep. I knew that this was going to be a little different from our normal rides.  There was no way I could have imagined that it would be as awesome as it was. There were a lot of us there that had sweat running from their eyes, mine included. I believe you have started the healing process for a lot of vets.
I believe it also helped a lot of the spouses as well.
Again, THANK YOU for an Awesome Day.

I personally want to THANK YOU for putting together the truly outstanding Welcome Home for Melvin Brown yesterday. It is an honor to do what we do so often for the American Heroes as we attend rides and escorts for them. Yesterday was very special to me and many of my Viet Nam Veteran Brothers and Sisters. It opened the door for many people that never knew what we went through, to be able to learn from the mistakes from the past and to embrace our American Heroes and give them the respect they should ALWAYS have. I can’t thank you enough for the love and respect you show not only me, but all our American Heroes. It is especially touching to me. Thank you again!
