***NOTICE***

Philip H. Parker VFW Post 2438 & Ladies Auxiliary invites the public to attend a formal Flag Retirement ceremony at the Post home, located at 1672 Hwy 60 North on November 11th at 6:30PM.

This ceremony is imbued in military tradition. The Color Guard will present the Colors at the beginning of the program; an explanation of the rules governing the disposal of the US and Texas flags will be made, and a beautiful ceremony will be held to retire more than 200 US, Texas and POW/MIA flags. During this part of the program a gun salute will be made followed by the haunting music of Echo Taps.

The program will proceed to the hoisting of new flags on the flag poles. During the raising of the US flag the "Star Spangled Banner" will be sung and during the song Dale Thames, a Post member and a member of the Sons of the Republic of Texas Black Powder Brigade, will render a cannon salute with his cannon Big Foot. The Texas fl ag will be raised to the music of our beautiful state song, "Texas Our Texas".

Throughout the program there will be bugle calls and traditional military marching music.

This will be the first occasion to utilize the crucible built by Eagle Scout candidate Cole Leissner of Boy Scout Troop 45 as his Eagle Scout project; he will be given the honor of setting off the blaze. His brother Poth Leissner, is also an Eagle Scout candidate from Boy Scout Troop 45; he created the very attractive raised flower beds around the Flag Court and also built the catwalks on the Post marquee as his Eagle Scout project. He will be assisting in the flag raising part of the event.

Others that may be a part of the ceremony include Bay City Civil Air Patrol Composite Squadron SWR-TX-127, Queen-Hamlin VFW Post 2467 of Palacios, Cecil Lee American Legion Post 649 of Blessing and Bay City American Legion Post 11.

Light refreshments will be served following the ceremony.

This will be a great opportunity for Matagorda County Cavalry to show our respect for Old Glory. Please wear your Matagorda County Cavalry logo proudly.
