****NOTICE****

Brazoria County Cavalry members,

Below is some info that we felt that everyone should know about.  Please forward this info to everyone you know in the Brazosport area.  This comes from BCC supporter and City of Freeport Chief Executive Officer and City Manager Jeff Pynes

Below is information regarding a new Brazosport High School program I have been asked to help with. We are looking for help with the program with community leaders to help facilitate the program and provide mentoring activities to at risk or troubled youth. The program was initiated to affect the educational environment at B-Port and mentor a child to see a vision of success and prosperity. Below is an informative e-mail we are trying to get out to as many people as we can. We would welcome your participation and ability to spread the word

Greetings,

First of all, I am pleased about the positive reception of creating an Academic Booster Club for our Brazosport High School and your willingness to participate in the same. From the first meeting, we identified many issues within our school environment and community in which the ABC initiative can have a positive impact. Proper implementation, application and management of such a plan has a great propensity to have a positive impact on the youth of our community, the continued quality education of our BISD schools, juvenile crime / recidivism, delinquency and the potential for restoring the lives and prosperity of the families involved. We are on the cusp of creating a model of something great where we can make a difference, not only in our community, but the lives of the families.

After several meetings, we have created a model for the ABC program and are in the works to ensure it contains the components of a successful program. As with the success of any program or initiative, it will take a small group of volunteers to manage the program and evaluate its effectiveness and an army of community leaders and volunteers to assist in performing the mentoring components to the identified at risk or in need youth population. We understand initially using the terminology “mentor to a troubled youth” sounds daunting; however, the components of the program will provide adequate training for all mentors in the critical areas of the program. The program itself will provide everyone with the necessary skills to be effective and the program to be a success. We are asking for your help, your support and for you to help us identify people within our community who want to participate in a mentorship program to assist youth and families in crisis or in need within the Brazosport High School. We have identified a critical need within a certain targeted B-Port youth population and our school is asking for assistance, via this ABC initiative, to help change the lives of those youth in crisis or in need and help them gain vision through a coordinated mentorship plan. We ask that you reach out to your neighbors, friends, co-workers, churches, etc and have them contact me via e-mail (jpynes@freeport.tx.us) or call me directly (979-871-0115) to get involved, together we can make a difference in the lives and prosperity of the youth of our community, but it will take commitment, coordination and dedication.

We will have a community ABC planning and informational meeting for January 11, 2010 at 6:30pm at the Brazosport High School in the auditorium. We ask for your attendance and support to bring as many interested persons possible to this very important meeting. BISD will be notifying all parents of the meeting via their telephone notification network. In conjunction with the telephone notifications, we are looking for some volunteers to assist in making telephone calls and/or personal contact and invite the families of the identified at risk or in need youth to get them involved. Please forward anyone to me who wants to participate in the program. We hope to have standing room only in the auditorium that is filled with such community pride where we all stand up together to make a difference not only in our community but in the life of a child. We hope to see you at the meeting!

Please forward this e-mail as necessary in order to garner the support necessary within our community.
